Happy Thursday everyone! This week has been so gloomy and gray and it’s making me more and more impatient for Spring to arrive. I’m just dying to get back outside or not be freezing cold or wet when I step out the door. At least it’s almost the weekend, and we have visitors coming and staying the night! Yay! I wanted to share some of our previous home renos and upgrades and I thought I’d start with our living room built-ins and fire place.
When Steele and I moved into our current home we were fortunate enough to have a great “base” to work worth with. The walls were all painted a great gray, floors were a dark laminate and the tile was a neutral gray mix. Yes there were things we wanted to change right away but it was move in ready and had a lot of great potential.
The living room had one large plain wall so we decided to add a gas fireplace, mantel and built-ins on both sides. There was nowhere to really decorate other than on the walls, so I was super excited about these shelves and extra storage.
I already knew I wanted simple and white. Even though I had that main decision made I still did a lot of looking on Pinterest. I wanted to be able to show the carpenter the look I was going for, which was simple with clean lines. I chose to have shaker style cabinet doors on the bottom and plain trim with no detail to frame the shelves and finish off the top. I had also decided I wanted to have adjustable shelves that were stained instead of painted white.
