After the longest winter in history I think I can speak for everyone and say hallelujah it’s SUMMERTIME!!!! I love everything about summer, the heat, the fashion, not wearing socks, vacations, sun kissed skin, patio season, outdoor activities I could go on.
Maybe it’s just me but everything seems to get easier once summer arrives. Not only can you run out of the house with less clothing on, but your skin isn’t dry and rough which means less time and money spent on moisturizing, and nothing beats summer skin! And because of the glowing skin and shift in mood, I always find that my makeup routine changes, less effort seems to go a long way…it could all just be in my head since it’s amazing what a little sunshine and fresh air can do for your body and mind, but the sun kissed skin and a happier outlook on life really make a difference…glowing + smiling, what a wonderful combo!
So I wanted to share my summer time makeup routine and the products I use to help make getting my face ready for the day that much faster and easier!
First I always apply sunscreen on my face and neck. I think sun protection is so important and it helps keep your skin looking young and less wrinkled, so why not take the extra 5 seconds!? It’s even easier if your foundation or BB cream has an SPF in it (make sure it’s at least an SPF 30).
Next I use a concealer under my eyes for those dreaded dark circles. I like the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Cirles (Light). It is so easy and quick to apply and it does a great job of masking those dark under eye circles! I like to apply it and then gently blend it with my ring finger and then a soft felted makeup sponge (I think I got at MAC, supposed to be for applying BB cream).
Next I apply Rimmel INSTA FLAWLESS. I had been using MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm with SPF 35 (medium dark) and loved it but I just happened to come across this Rimmel product since I couldn’t get to the mall and needed something. So glad I gave this stuff a shot! It’s only $9.00 and it goes on so nicely. It comes in two shades, light/medium and medium/dark. I’m using the medium/dark right now. I hate wearing a lot of makeup in the summer, partially because I have no clue how to apply it properly but also because it’s so hot and I just want something low maintenance that will make me presentable. This product is so easy to apply, super light weight, gives you coverage and a nice glow!
Then I apply some MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder (Medium Dark) with a Kabuki brush, just to get rid of any shine. I’ve been using this product for years and absolutely love it! I typically don’t wear foundation and I like that this powder is enough on its own. Next I apply bronzer, right now I’m using Too Faced Sweethearts Bronzer (baked luminous glow bronzer + Sweet tea). I apply this on my forehead (along the hairline), cheek bones, down my nose and under my chin and neck. This is my quick attempt at contouring . Next I apply a tiny bit of blush, loving my Sephora “Shame on you!” and I also like Tarte “tipsy”.
Filling in my eyebrows is the next task, I had been using Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof eyebrow pencil (#2), but yet again getting to the mall is a bit harder these days. I searched for something similar and was pleased to find Revlon Colourstay brow pencil in Blonde. This one is very similar to the Benefit pencil but I do find that the pencil itself is a lot softer, so you have to be more careful when applying…BUT it is only $10 as opposed to the $32 Benefit pencil. Sometimes if I have extra time (C is napping), I will fill in my brows further with brow powder and a brush. I love the Anastasia Brow Powder Duo (Dark Brown) and finish them off with Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fibre Gel. Again those last two steps are typically only if I have extra time.
Then I move onto my eyes and use my eyelash curler and apply some mascara. I use the Covergirl Lash Blast Volume mascara in “Very Black”. If I’m in a rush I just re-curl and apply a second coat of mascara. If I have time I apply eyeshadow, typically MAC “Satin Taupe” and “Smut”, then I apply false lashes and voila all done!
I know that sounds like a lot but I think my makeup usually only takes 15 minutes and that’s including the extra steps and lashes!
What are some of your favourite make up products that you can’t live without? Do you have any tips that help make your routine quicker and easier?
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Tuesday!!!
